Thomas Schlager

Thomas Schlager says “I completed my first training in aromatherapy when I was  just 18 years old. I then learned the profession of office clerk and administrative assistant but I quickly returned to my vocation.

After training and working in the field of caring for the severely disabled, I was drawn to social education with a specialization in psychiatric children and adolescents.

After six years, I trained as a qualified health and nursing assistant. I worked for years in anesthesiological intensive care units.

Very quickly, I began to question  conventional methods of skin management and went on to train to be a cosmetics manufacturer. I then integrated this into my freelance work and have been providing my patients with natural skin care ever since.

At the same time, I started working with doctors who are interested in aromatherapy. Aromatograms and aromatherapy applications in a clinically medically supported setting have become my USP.

In 2020, I held the first advanced training course in Austria for health and nursing staff in the field of conventional wound management with aroma care in the school-autonomous area with 5 participants in Graz / Styria.

After just 5 years, I have now trained over 130 qualified health and nursing staff in 4 Austrian states – in cooperation with aromainfo.at – in conventional wound management, who have also learned what essential oils, carrier oils, hydrolates and herbs actually do to the skin and the mind.”

Professor Emmanuel Adukwu

Emmanuel Adukwu is a Professor of Applied Microbiology at the University of the West of England and Deputy Head of the School of Applied Sciences.
His area of research combines experimental and public health methods to address issues around antimicrobial resistance and stewardship.

He became interested in essential oil as part of his Masters by Research project which evaluated the antibacterial and antifungal effects of essential oil blends on a range of medically important pathogens as part of an industry-funded project investigating antibacterial properties of encapsulated essential oils.

He has carried out several studies exploring different experimental approaches to study the effects of a large panel of essential oils against clinically relevant pathogens with some focus around utilising essential oils as potential antiseptic and antibiofilm agents and anti-spoilage agents.

He has supervised several projects at masters and doctoral level that incorporate the use of essential oils with several conference abstracts and published articles in this area.

Emmanuel believes in this powerful resource from nature and it’s potential in managing the growing concern caused by antimicrobial resistant pathogens especially at a time where antibiotics and antifungals are less effective and in shortage.

I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Poznan University of Medical Sciences and completed postgraduate studies in “Herbs in Prevention and Therapy” there as well. I’ve always been fascinated by the power of plants to heal and promote well-being, so I’ve dedicated a large part of my career to exploring the world of phytotherapy.I believe that aromatherapy is an essential part of it.
Currently, I chair the Phytotherapy Section of the Polish Society of Family Medicine. It’s a fantastic opportunity to share knowledge with other doctors and patients, advocating for the responsible use of plant-based medicine in primary care. We also work to bridge the gap between different healthcare professionals interested in plant-based therapies.

To make learning about phytotherapy more accessible, I founded an educational platform called Practical Phytotherapy (www.fitoterapiapraktyczna.pl) for doctors, pharmacists, and phytotherapists. I also run another platform called Practical Aromatherapy (www.aromaterapiapraktyczna.pl) because, yes, I’m a bit of an aromatherapy enthusiast!
I love sharing my insights through lectures and workshops at various medical courses and conferences, both in Poland and internationally.
My medical journey has been incredibly diverse. I spent several years working as a family doctor in Africa. As the vice president of Redemptoris Missio Foundation, I was responsible for organizing primary health care in missions across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. Those experiences truly shaped my perspective on healthcare and global health.

With over 15 years of experience in family medicine, I believe in an evidence-based approach that integrates the best of conventional medicine with the wisdom of traditional healing practices. I’m a lifelong learner, always eager to explore new applications for essential oils and expand my knowledge in the field.”

Over the years, I have developed a record of high quality research into the psychological effects of aromas in healthy adults and to a lesser extent children.

YULIANA KIREYEVA

Yuliana says:

“I was born in Belarus, where music shaped much of my early life. I graduated from the Academy of Music as a choral conductor, and alongside my musical path, I began exploring aromatherapy with my aunt. The two practices—sound and scent—have walked with me ever since. Over the years, I performed internationally and eventually settled in the UAE, where I continue working as a vocal and piano teacher. It was here that I felt called to take aromatherapy more seriously.

I completed formal studies at the Essence of Thyme College of Holistic Studies, building on earlier training from the Saint-Petersburg Aromatherapy Institute and the Tisserand Institute.

A turning point came when I discovered I have olfactory-auditory synesthesia — a condition where scents evoke sounds and musical textures in my mind. This led me to create Olfactory Sounds, a personal project where I compose music inspired by individual aromas. It’s my way of expressing what a scent feels like emotionally and energetically, translating it into sound.

My journey continued with the founding of the Vocal Health Institute and the creation of the Voice Flow Straw, a tool that supports vocal efficiency for singers and speakers.

Now, I’m preparing to launch my own line of aromatherapy products — carefully crafted blends that reflect both my scientific training and creative expression. To me, aromatherapy is more than essential oils—it’s a sensory language that bridges body, voice, and emotion. It helps people reconnect with themselves in a way that is gentle, personal, and deeply powerful.”
